Joël Penkman grew up in New ZeaIand and moved to the United Kingdom in 2003 after graduating in fine arts at Canterbury University, Christchurch. She also works as a graphic designer and this has influenced her pieces which are often graphic and meticulous. Much of her work is painted using egg tempera, a medium that requires particular patience and planning. She is interested in finding and celebrating the beauty in the detail of everyday life. I think these tea cups are just fantastic and she is always in search of new ones to paint. Joel hopes to eventually paint a hundred different tea cups!! I think in her honour I will put the kettle on. Good to be back on my blog.
